Built alongside the Hutt River, 32km north-east of
Wellington, this pleasant city lies at the base of the rugged Rimutaka Ranges. The ranges have many opportunities for outdoor pursuits, including hunting and hiking. There are excellent recreational facilities within the city, with golf courses, parks and reserves, many of which line the Hutt River. Maidstone Park and Trentham Memorial Park are the main reserves while Trentham Racecourse is a drawcard for racegoers.
