Ski & Board Mt Lyford
Mount Lyford's sunny Terako basin is located 26km from Waiau, 60km from the thermal resort of Hanmer Springs, and 60km from the whalewatching capital of Kaikoura. An ideal family field, Mount Lyford ski area caters for all levels, and also offers cross-country and off-piste skiing.
Mount Lyford is linked via tow rope to Terako Basin - a great learner's area with some challenging runs for intermediate and advanced skiers. The Wild Ride Terrain Park caters for boarders with jumps, kickers and rails, and a half pipe. To get there, take the access road off Highway 70 about 20km after Waiau. The 8km gravel road passes through Beech Forest and into alpine terrain, and finishes at Terako Basin, where you'll find the car park and ski area.
