Things to Do in Waihi

• Martha Mine
  A modern mine producing some 85,000oz of gold and 680,000oz of silver a year. The Waihi Gold Mining Company offers guided tours on weekdays (bookings essential).
• Waihi Goldmining Museum & Art Gallery
  Located on Kenny Street, the museum showcases the goldmining history of Waihi and the district, along with changing art exhibitions at the gallery. There are souvenirs, crafts and pottery for sale.
• Vision Waihi Trust - Waihi Gold Mining Co Ltd
  Using steam and diesel, this vintage train makes a one-hour 6.5km trip from Waihi to Waikino and back. There are trains daily at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, with extra trains on Sundays and holidays. Souvenirs and refreshments available.
• Karangahake Gorge Walkway
  This historic walkway takes in the Owharoa Falls and the Talisman and Victoria gold battery sites.
• Victoria Battery
  The largest quartz-crushing plant in Australasia with underground ore kilns and tunnels.
• Ohinemuri Estate Winery
  Located on Moresby Street in Karangahake, the winery is open daily in summer and Friday to Sunday in winter. There is also a good café serving Mediterranean-style food.
• Waihi Beach
  This sweeping 8km stretch of ocean beach is popular with holidaymakers and surfers.
• Waihi Golf Course
  An 18-hole course considered one of the best in the province.
• The Water Lily Gardens
  Located in Pukekauri Road, these beautiful gardens are open during the summer months from November to April. There is a café on site.
• Athenree Hot Springs & Holiday Park
  Natural hot mineral pools open daily 9am-7.30pm.
