For a truly unique maritime heritage experience, take a cruise aboard New Zealand's last paddlesteamer, the PS 'Waimarie' (est 1900), voted Wanganui's No 1 visitor attraction. Summer timetable: (effective from 21 October 2007 to 1 May 2008) daily sailings at 2pm (2 hours duration). The 'Waimarie' travels 13km up the Whanganui River to Upokongaro, then returns to the Whanganui Riverboat Centre. Winter timetable: (May to October - no sailings during August) Saturday, Sunday, public holidays and school holidays - sailing time 1pm to 3pm. Schedules may be changed at short notice due to river conditions. Other sailings and charters by arrangement; all types of functions and social events catered for. Ticket prices: adult $33; child 5-15 $14; child under 5yrs free; family concession $94 (2 adults & up to 4 children). Bookings recommended for this popular river cruise.
