    Warkworth is within distance of several wineries at nearby Matakana, all of which offer tastings and cellar door sales. These include Heron's Flight (49 Sharp Rd), with its Italian-style wines and café, Ascension Vineyard (Leigh Rd), which also offers café dining, Matakana Estate (Leigh Road) and Hyperion Wines (Tongue Farm Rd).

    Nearby outlets include Red Barn Antiques, D'vine Arts and Matakana Market Co-op. The Morris & James pottery on Tongue Farm Road has an excellent café, and visitors can watch potters and artists at work.     A large complex 4km north of Warkworth on SH1, featuring a sheep and dog show, a small animal farm, a sheepskin shop, craft co-op and café. Visitors can try their hand at spinning and carding, and there are tame sheep and lambs to feed.
  • Warkworth Satellite Station
    Located 6km south of Warkworth, the station features hands-on exhibits to explain satellite communications. Visitors can view the station from the public observation gallery.
  • Warkworth & District Museum
    Set in the Parry Kauri Park just south of town, the museum displays artefacts from the region’s colonial past.
  • Kawau Lodge
    Kawau Island is nearby and famous for its Mansion House, the stately former home of Sir George Grey, New Zealand’s first Governor General. There are many lovely bushwalks around the island, and the ruins of an old copper mine. A ferry leaves from Sandspit, 7km east of Warkworth. Operators include Kawau Kat Cruises and Matata Cruises.
  • Mahurangi Regional Park
    This 230ha farm park takes in some stunning bays and coastline along the historic Mahurangi Harbour.
  • Tawharanui Regional Park
    Encompassing much of the Tawharanui Peninsula, the park offers a mix of rugged cliffs, bush-clad valleys and stands of kauri trees.
  • Wenderholm Regional Park
    One of the Auckland region's smallest parks, located at the mouth of the Puhoi River. There is a good swimming beach and barbecue facilities. Historic Couldrey House is open to the public at weekends, from 1-4pm. Operators include Puhoi River Canoe Hire.
