Located on the stunning Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of
Auckland, Whangaparaoa is the peninsula's main
centre and part of the
Hibiscus Coast. The town has an excellent shopping centre and a movie theatre. The peninsula itself has many lovely beaches on its two coastlines, including Manly Beach, Stanmore Bay and Arkles Bay. Manly Beach is especially popular with windsurfers, while boaties gravitate to Gulf Harbour, at the end of the peninsula. Ferry services depart from Gulf Harbour to Tiritiri Matangi Island, a nature reserve and bird sanctuary that is well worth a visit.
