Things to Do in Whangaparaoa

• Whangaparaoa
  The peninsula has several pretty beaches and culminates in Shakespear Regional Park, a farm and coastal park with some lovely walkways. The plush Gulf Harbour village, with its marina, golf course and smart cafés, sits at the end of the peninsula.
• Whangaparaoa Railway
  The town's narrow gauge railway is popular with children and steam train enthusiasts, taking passengers through a scenic bush setting. The railway is open weekends only, at 400 Whangaparaoa Road.
• Gulf Harbour
  Plush Gulf Harbour sits at the tip of Whangaparaoa Peninsula, with a marina, apartments and fashionable cafés. It is well known for the Gulf Harbour Country Club and golf course - one of Auckland's most scenic. This magnificent course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, looks out over the Hauraki Gulf.
• Tiritiri Matangi Island
  Part of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park, this beautiful island has been replanted with thousands of native trees. An open bird sanctuary, it is now a haven for endangered native birds. The island's historic 30m lighthouse was built in 1865. Ferries depart from Gulf Harbour. Guided tours, run by the Department of Conservation, are available on the island.
• Shakespear Regional Park
  At the tip of the peninsula, this working farm has some great picnic sites and lovely swimming beaches. The park is home to native birds and waders, and there are walking tracks through the native forests, featuring kowhai, puriri and karaka trees.
