This scenic region, known for its idyllic islands and superb diving, takes in the island groups of East and West New Britain, New Ireland, Manus and the North Solomons (Bougainville). Highlights include the active volcanoes of Tavurvur and Vulcan in East New Britain, the caves and coral gardens of Kimbe Bay in West New Britain, ancient shark calling rituals on the west coast of New Ireland, and the vast Benua Cave in the North Solomons. Manus is the country’s smallest province.
