Things to Do in Samoa

Things to see and do in Samoa, Samoa highlights, Samoa activities and attractions, and points of interest in Samoa - the ALL NEW Jasons Samoa Things to Do Guide is your complete guide to sightseeing in Samoa.

  • Savaii
Samoa’s largest island is known for its traditional way of life, pristine scenery and archaeological sites. A well paved road encircles the island.
  • Upolu Island
Upolu is home to Samoa’s capital Apia, and the former home of author Robert Louis Stevenson. Highlights include the sacred burial grounds at Mulinuu and the Papaseea Sliding Rocks.
  • Fiafia Nights
A performance of traditional Samoan dancing and singing which usually includes a buffet dinner. Dancers are accompanied by drummers using a wooden mallet.
  • Handcrafts
Samoa is famous for its fine mats (toga). These are woven from strips of decorated bark cloth (known as siapo or tapa), which is harvested from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree.
  • Kayaking
Most of Samoa's coastline is ringed with reefs, making it ideal for kayaking. Several adventure companies offer tours around the main islands and uninhabited offshore islands.
  • Surfing
Surfing is for experienced surfers only and best at high tide. Waves break directly onto the coral reefs and currents are often very strong.
  • Diving & Snorkelling
Samoa is blessed with a rich marine life. The surrounding reefs are home to some 900 fish species and more than 200 varieties of coral, and the warm clear waters provide excellent visibility.
  • Watersports
A host of watersports includes swimming, sailing and windsurfing (many resorts hire out boats and boards).
  • Fishing
Although game fishing in Samoa is relatively new, it’s been rated in the top 10 game fishing destinations in the world. Fishing is excellent just outside the reef off Upolu. The Sa´Moana Resort operates the most extensive game fishing charters. At Maninoa Beach, crew offer lessons for beginners and tips on the best fishing spots. Various other charters can usually be found at Apia Harbour.
  • Other Activities
Other activities include walking, golf, caving, team sports, squash, bowls, tennis and cycling.
  • Caving
Virtually all caving within Samoa is in old lava tubes which are home to the native white-rumped swiftlet (Aerodramus spodiopygius).
  • Biking
With over 1800km of sealed roads, there are a number of dirt tracks for the mountain bike enthusiasts to tackle.
