Samoa Transport
There are various transport options for getting around Samoa, including ferry, bicycle and taxi.
Buses
The bus service on both
Upolu and
Savaii, provides inexpensive transport for local people and an experience to remember for travellers. All buses are named with their destination so ask the driver which bus you need to catch. In
Apia the bus terminals are located next to the food market in Fugalei and the fish market. On Savaii the bus terminal is at the market in Salelologa. A copy of a bus and schedule is available from the Samoa Visitors Bureau.
Driving The Transport Control Board at Vaitele will validate your driver’s licence for WS$10. Drive on the right-hand side of the road at 25mph in town and 35mph between villages. Watch for children and domestic animals in and around the villages.
Petrol stations Fill up in town before driving to remote areas.
Car hire It is the law that your licence is endorsed by the Transport Control Board prior to collecting your rental vehicle. Rental car company offices are located in Apia, the International Airport and Salelologa on Savaii.
Bike hire Cycles and mountain bikes are available for hire Autopro Rentals in Apia.
Taxis Taxis charge a minimum of WS$2. A brief copy of the bus fare rates is available from the Samoa Tourism Authority. A copy of the taxi fare rates can be obtained from the Transport Control Board.

There are three ferry companies operating in Samoa that will take you between the islands.
