Things to Do in Vanuatu

Things to see and do in Vanuatu, Vanuatu highlights, Vanuatu activities and attractions, and points of interest in Vanuatu - the ALL NEW Jasons Vanuatu Things to Do Guide is your complete guide to sightseeing in Vanuatu.

  • Michoutouchkine & Pilioko Foundation Art Gallery
Named after its two resident artists, the gallery is en route to Pango village. There is an interesting collection of Pacific memorabilia, including ornate carvings and masks from southern Malakula. Visitors can also explore the lovely garden. Entry is free.
  • Star of Russia
The ‘star’ of the wreck dives is not to be missed. The wreck of this 89m schooner lies about 300m west of the main wharf, and is home to scores of multi-coloured fish.
  • Malapoa Point
US forces discarded ammunition here at the end of WWII. The fine coral gardens of Malapoa Reef lie just beyond.
  • Erakor Island
This beautiful island is linked to Vila by a free ferry that leaves from a small jetty south of Le Lagon Vanuatu Resort. There is a small swimming beach and a good restaurant at the resort, and rainforest to explore.
  • Mele Island
Also known as Hideaway Island, this tiny islet has the best snorkelling close to Vila, with schools of friendly tropical fish (which you can hand-feed) and vivid corals of blue, purple, green and yellow. The surrounding reef area is a marine reserve. Visitors can hire snorkel gear, kayaks and catamarans. A free ferry connects Mele to the mainland. There is an Island fee of VT 500 per adult.
  • Klem’s Hill Look Out
Magnificent views across to Port Vila and Mele Island can be seen from Klem’s Hill (near Mele village), where the steep road climbs to 200m above sea level. Entry charged.
  • Mele-Maat Cascades
This impressive 20m waterfall is located at the bottom of Klem’s Hill. Visitors can stroll up to the falls through the lush tropical bush of the cascade Botanical Garden. There are some good natural swimming pools. Entry charged.
  • Mele Botanical Gardens & Cultural Centre
A fantastic way to experience Vanuatu’s custom and culture, birdlife and wildlife, and flora and fauna. Set in more than 2 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens. Entry Charged. Phone (678) 26 222.
  • Lelepa Island
The island is known for Feles Cave, a large cave thought to be the resting place of legendary Polynesian chief Roy Mata. There is a long sandy beach on the eastern side, and beautiful coral gardens fringing the south-east coast. WWII remains include two crashed Corsair fighters.
  • Iviri
The village enjoys fine views across Undine Bay towards the rugged Nguna, Pele and Emao islands. Valeafau Cave is just before the village, and there’s a good picnic spot on the shore shortly after the village turn-off.
  • Eton Beach & Eton Blue Hole
This safe, sandy swimming beach is one of the Efate’s nicest. South of the village, on the eastern side of the road, is a blue hole fed by the ocean. Entry Charged.
  • Eratap Island
Also known as Castaway, this tropical islet has a lovely white sand beach and good snorkelling. It’s a favourite barbecue spot for boat tours.
  • Moso Island
This bush-clad island has deep caves on its northern side, and is also home to a turtle sanctuary that can be visited on the boat tours.
  • Nguna Island
Lying off the north coast of Efate, Nguna has some lovely walking trails, and a long white sand beach on its north-western side. Mount Taputaora (593m) affords fine views over Efate and out to the Shepherd Islands.
