Company Board

The Board of Jasons Travel Media Ltd is responsible for the long term growth and profitability of the Company. The Board charts the direction of Jasons Travel Media and monitors management performance on behalf of the shareholders. A critical role of the Board is to ensure that the Company is engaged in appropriate strategic planning, operational monitoring and risk management. Its role is also to engage in selecting and monitoring and evaluating the performance of the chief executive and senior staff. It must also replace the CEO when appropriate and, where possible, ensure sound management succession. The Board works to ensure the integrity of internal controls and information systems.

At all times it exercises ethical behaviour and complies with laws and regulations. The Board comprises three non-executive directors and one executive. The Chairman and Deputy Chairman are non-executive members of the Board.
The Board has an Audit Committee and a Remuneration Committee. Each committee is comprised of two non-executive members of the Board. The Board meets 12 times per annum.

Chairman

Geoff Burns B.Com CA

Geoff Burns is the director and primary consultant for Fernmade Limited, a consultancy focused on Tourism and Business Development. His current commercial clients are sector leaders within Tourism in New Zealand, with his role as Board Chairman of NZAX listed Jasons Travel Media Limited, The Rees Limited and Magic Memories Limited. Geoff also mentors many innovative startup and growing Tourism businesses and consults on a range of planning and feasability studies.

Geoff has recently completed time at the governance level for the Tourism industry as a director 1999-2007 (Chairman 2001-2006) of the 2000 member industry representation organisation, The Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand. Geoff is also active within the public sector, most recently (2006/7) in his role as Strategy Director for the update of the 2015 New Zealand Tourism strategy. He participates regularly at central and local government level including consulting contracts with Trade and Enterprise New Zealand (as a strategy consultant in areas such as business performance and regional economic and tourism development), Ministry of Tourism (regional cultural tourism development) and Regions (tourism based and economic development strategies).

With a personal interest in the specialist business area of golf, Geoff continues as manager of New Zealand’s inbound Golf Tourism cluster www.bestofgolfnewzealand.com that he initiated to grow the interest in development of the golf experience for first time visitors to New Zealand. Geoff is also proud to represent leading New Zealand touring professional Phil Tataurangi. You can follow his progress at www.philtataurangi.com. Deputy Chairman

Michael Simm BCA, ACA, CMA 

After a corporate career in financial and general management with Rheem and McConnell Dowell, Mike became one of the owners and executives of Fullers Bay of Islands in 1989. He sold his interests in Fullers Bay of Islands in 2001 and has pursued community and director interests. He has also been a director of the New Zealand Tourism Board (1997-2000) and the New Zealand Tourism Industry Association (2000-2001).

Mike's current directorships include Top Energy Limited, Deputy Chairman: Destination Northland Limited (Northland's regional tourism body) and Enterprise Northland - Regional economic development agency, as Chairman: Brightwater Engineers Limited, and various private investment companies.

Non-Executive Director

John Sandford

John Sandford, the founder of Jasons, has over 40 years of involvement in many key industry organisations. These include the Magazine Publishers Association of New Zealand; the Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) since its inception in 1972; the Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand (HAPNZ) since 1969; Qualmark New Zealand Limited, director 1987-2001; the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) - Past Chairman, Board member, Executive Committee member, and former Chairman of the Marketing Committee; and Director (1992-2004) and Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand (TIANZ).

John is a graduate of the Executive Development Programme - Stanford University, CA, USA. He has been a major figure in the travel and tourism industry of New Zealand and the wider region over 30 years. In 2004 he received the prestigious Sir Jack Newman Award in recognition of his outstanding long-term contribution to New Zealand tourism. In addition to Jasons Travel Media, John is a director of Rodney Forests Ltd (Chairman), Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd, Kiwi Kats Ltd (t/a 360 Discovery Cruises, formerly Kawau Kat Cruises), Ruapehu, Rangitikei, Wanganui Districts' Major Regional Initiative Tourism and several private companies as well as a Trustee of Enterprise North Shore and PATA New Zealand Trust.

Chief Executive

Matthew Mayne

Matthew has taken on the role of Chief Executive as of 28 October 2008. He is an experienced General Manager with particular strengths in the online media sector.

Matthew is an honours graduate in Commerce and Marketing, from Victoria University. He started his career at Telstra Saturn in Wellington and held the roles of Manager Residential Marketing and Manager e-Business Development. Since 2002 he has been in the UK where he worked in a variety of online positions, predominantly within British Telecom.  His most recent role has been as General Manager of The Betting Site, an online racing joint venture in the UK which included Britain’s terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4 as a shareholder.
