Company Board

The Board of Jasons Travel Media Ltd is responsible for the long term growth and profitability of the Company. The Board charts the direction of Jasons Travel Media and monitors management performance on behalf of the shareholders. A critical role of the Board is to ensure that the Company is engaged in appropriate strategic planning, operational monitoring and risk management. Its role is also to engage in selecting, monitoring and evaluating the performance of the chief executive and senior staff. It must also replace the CEO when appropriate and, where possible, ensure sound management succession. The Board works to ensure the integrity of internal controls and information systems.

At all times it exercises ethical behaviour and complies with laws and regulations. The Board comprises a Chairman and Deputy Chairman, which are non-executive members of the Board and two non-executive Directors.
The Board has an Audit Committee and a Remuneration Committee. Each committee is comprised of two non-executive members of the Board. The Board meets 12 times per annum.


Chairman

John Sandford
John Sandford, the founder of Jasons, is a non-executive director of the company. John is a graduate of the Executive Development Programme - Stanford University, CA, USA. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management Inc (FNZIM) and an Accredited Member of the Institute of Directors of New Zealand (AMIoD).

John has over 40 years of involvement in many key tourism, travel and media industry organisations. These include; Business Publishers Association of New Zealand(BPA) (President and Board member); Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) (Life member); Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand Association (HAPNZ) (Honorary member); Qualmark New Zealand Limited, (Director); Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) - Chairman, Board member, Executive Committee member, and Chairman of the Marketing Committee; Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand (TIANZ) (Director and Deputy Chairman); Major Regional Initiative (MRI) – Tourism, Ruapehu, Rangitikei, Wanganui Districts (Board member).

In 2004 John received the prestigious Sir Jack Newman Award at the Tourism Industry Assn of NZ Annual Awards in recognition of his outstanding long-term contribution to New Zealand tourism.

John has been a board member of a range of companies and organisations in the past in sectors such as forestry, radio, property, printing, sport, newspaper publishing, distribution, and transport.

Currently, in addition to Jasons Travel Media Ltd and its Australian operating subsidiary Jasons Travel Media Pty Ltd, John is a director of Rodney Forests Ltd (Chairman), Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd, Tourism Enterprises Ltd (t/a Ace Rental Cars NZ and Aust), and several smaller private companies. He is also a Board member of NZIM-National; a Board member and Chairman of NZIM-Northern; a Board member and Trustee of Enterprise North Shore; a Trustee of PATA New Zealand Trust and trustee of several private trusts.

Deputy Chairman

Geoff Burns B.Com CA
Geoff Burns is the director and primary consultant for Fernmade Limited, a consultancy focused on Tourism and Business Development. His current commercial clients are sector leaders within Tourism in New Zealand, with his role as Board Chairman of NZAX listed Jasons Travel Media Limited, The Rees Limited and Magic Memories Limited. Geoff also mentors many innovative startup and growing Tourism businesses and consults on a range of planning and feasability studies.

Geoff has recently completed time at the governance level for the Tourism industry as a director 1999-2007 (Chairman 2001-2006) of the 2000 member industry representation organisation, The Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand. Geoff is also active within the public sector, most recently (2006/7) in his role as Strategy Director for the update of the 2015 New Zealand Tourism strategy. He participates regularly at central and local government level including consulting contracts with Trade and Enterprise New Zealand (as a strategy consultant in areas such as business performance and regional economic and tourism development), Ministry of Tourism (regional cultural tourism development) and Regions (tourism based and economic development strategies).

Non-Executive Director

Nick Baylis 

Nick has a significant background in Marketing and Advertising. This included roles as Chief Executive at two of New Zealand’s leading advertising agencies, DraftFCB and M&C Saatchi, before he founded Brandology in June 2010. Brandology is a strategic consultancy that creates and sustains market-dominant brands through organisational transformation. Nick has been intimately involved in the recent re-launch of the Jasons brand and the company’s enhanced consumer proposition both online, at Jasons.com, and in print.

Non-Executive Director

Jamie Hall
Jamie has an MA (Honours) degree in Jamie has an MA (Honours) degree in Economic Geography from Auckland University and in 2010 he was made a life member of the NZ Market Research Society. In addition to his market research career and successful transition from private company ownership to global corporate management, Jamie was a foundation investor with local merino wool success story, Icebreaker New Zealand and has interests in an Australian based Alarm Monitoring business Economic Geography from Auckland University and in 2010 he was made a life member of the NZ Market Research Society.
