Cook Islands Flora and Fauna

The physical isolation of the Cooks has led to the development of a simplified tropical flora and fauna. You can discover about 100 native ferns, 200 native flowering plants, 500 fish, a dozen lizards, a dozen landbirds, 400 shellfish, half-a-dozen migrant birds, 18 resident seabirds, marine turtles and humpback whales. The atoll of Atiu is a haven for birdwatchers, and has the widest variety of native landbirds in the Cooks.
