Marsden Point Travel Guide
Marsden Point accommodation, Marsden Point activities and attractions, Marsden Point maps, transportation to and around Marsden Point - the ALL NEW Jasons Marsden Point Destination Travel Guide is your complete visitor guide for Marsden Point.
On the southern shores of
Whangarei Harbour in the beautiful
Bream Bay area, Marsden Point is home to
New Zealand’s only crude oil refinery, its striped tower a distinctive harbour landmark. The Marsden Point Refinery visitor centre makes an interesting stop, with a 130 square metre working scale model and an impressive 20 minute light and sound show. Photographs, records and models show the huge pipeline that stretches from Marsden Point all the way to Wiri in
South Auckland.
Marsden Point also has a beautiful coastal setting. Pretty Marsden Bay is popular with families and makes a pleasant spot for a picnic, with safe swimming and stunning views out to Mount Manaia. Not far from Marsden Point, you can enjoy the superb surf and fishing at
Ruakaka, and the beach at
One Tree Point, or discover the Scottish heritage of historic
Waipu village. Across the harbour lie the lovely beaches and scenic walks of Whangarei Heads.
