Hahei boasts one of the finest beaches on the
Coromandel Peninsula and is very popular for family holidays. The tiny township is largely a holiday village, served by a busy general store. The islands and coastal waters around Hahei are part of a marine park and provide excellent diving opportunities.
A walk to Cathedral Cove, just north of Hahei, takes you to one of the region's scenic gems. Evidence of a former Maori pa can be seen at Te Pare Point, at the eastern end of Hahei beach. A trip to Hot Water Beach, south of Hahei, is also worthwhile.
