With its rugged coast, gently rolling hills and towering pine forests, Norfolk Island goes beyond the island stereotype of waving palm trees.
A former convict settlement infamous for its harsh conditions, Norfolk sits in the wild Tasman sea 1610km north-east of Sydney. Measuring just 8km by 5km, this tiny island is a nature lover’s paradise. About a third of the island is national park or reserve land offering beautiful walks and native bird and plantlife. For those with green fingers, the island’s gardens are a delight to discover – some tucked away atop magnificent coastal properties, and hiding a profusion of native and sub-tropical species. Specialty garden and farm tours allow you to see behind the scenes, often providing a window into the island’s colourful history as well.
We’ve put together some great ideas to help you discover Norfolk’s natural treasures, from market gardens and breakfast bushwalks to the local coffee plantation – and don’t forget to pick up your free copy of Jasons Norfolk Island Visitor Map
to help plan your adventure.
