Shopping in Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island’s superb shopping is one of its biggest drawcards, and many travel here primarily for the bargain hunting. Shopping in Norfolk Island is low-tax, and stores have a huge range of international merchandise which is often not readily available in Australia or New Zealand.

The Norfolk Island shopping precinct is located at the main township of Burnt Pine, which boasts more than 70 low-tax shops – all within an easy stroll of each other. Many designer and brand-name products can be found at half the Australian price (the local currency is the Australian dollar). In addition to the usual range of duty-free goods, there are items such as shoes, clothes, figurines, dinnerware, giftware, collectables, sporting goods and toys. Small specialty shops also offer imports from around the world.

Norfolk Island Shopping hours are 9am-5pm, although some shops close on Sundays, and on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. When you've finished shopping, you'll find more than 35 restaurants and eateries offering all types of international cuisine, including Norfolk Island’s unique blend of British and Tahitian cuisine. Many restaurants enjoy spectacular views or are situated in tranquil natural settings, so they are perfect for relaxing after a hard day’s shopping and sightseeing.
