Fishing in the Cook IslandsFishing
While you are in the Cook Islands, why not try a spot of game fishing? Whether you're a novice or an experienced angler, there are several well-equipped charter boats and the crews will do their utmost to make sure you have a great day on the ocean.

Charter costs are very favourable compared to other destinations, and share or private charters are available. One of the great advantages about fishing in the Cook Islands is that there is no long journey to the fishing grounds. As soon as you leave the harbour, it gets deep very quickly and the lines are in the water within a few minutes. During wahoo season (June to October) most of the fishing is done within 300m or 400m from the reef, so while you are waiting for those big fish to bite, you are enjoying a spectacular view of the islands. Wahoo are known as the fastest fish in the sea and can reach speeds of 80kph. Once hooked, they take off like a rocket. Tuna are the most common gamefish and, in season, huge schools can be found, so you can expect multiple strikes. Marlin and mahi mahi are the acrobats of the ocean and will give incredible aerial displays, leaping and somersaulting from the water in showers Fishing in the Cook Islandsof spray.

Humpback whales visit the waters of the Cook Islands from June to October when they breed and calve, so on many fishing trips during this period you can be treated to an amazing whale watch. Together with the fishing, it’s a truly unforgettable experience.
